Like clockwork, I ask this question every Sunday evening and ponder why I don’t have more days where I am not obligated to think about work. I do love my 9 -5 but why is the weekend so brief. Sometimes I have an intense weekend working on my hobbies/interests, sometimes I laze about and dedicate hours to KDrama on Netflix. It’s always the same outcome though. The weekend seems to go fast.
As the clock ticks toward the end of the workweek on Fridays, I experience an undeniable surge of excitement. Like most, I make plans and promise to see them through, but before I can say, Jack Robinson, the sun has set on Saturday.
It’s a paradox, isn’t it? At first, Saturday promises leisure and chill, but the pressure to have a #SaturdayWellSpent leads to a frantic search for activities – gym, cleaning, brunches, weddings, dance, swimming class, social media shenanigans, and the list goes on. The leisurely pace transforms into a hustling one as if the clock is ticking faster on this particular day. It’s a perpetual struggle between productivity and the pursuit of leisure.
Then in the blink of an eye – Sunday comes. The day of reckoning. The reality of Monday looms large, casting a shadow over what’s left of the weekend. The carefree moment from Saturday seems like a distant memory replaced with dread and getting ready for the new workweek.
You feel like time went too fast. You couldn’t even catch your breath. The weekend like Cinderella has disappeared before you could even say bye.
Sometimes, as I brood over this perplexing phenomenon of slipping time, I am reminded of the value of each fleeting moment and how the question “Where did the weekend go” might never truly be answered. Instead of merely counting the hours, I say we strive to make every moment count. Whether it’s pursuing a passion, connecting with loved ones, or simply enjoying a quiet moment, each choice contributes to the tapestry of our weekends.
As Monday’s shadow looms, let’s not only ponder the weekend’s disappearance but actively create and cherish the moments that make our time truly well-spent.
Make the most of our leisure times.🙂
